Professor Marian Asantewaa Nkansah has been appointed Director of the Directorate of Student Affairs (DoSA) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), tasked with enhancing student support and welfare.
Professor Nkansah succeeds Professor Wilson Agyei Agyare, who served as Dean of Student Affairs from 2019.
Prior to this appointment, Professor Nkansah served as the Deputy Director of Students' Affairs (Housing and Welfare) since June 2022, where she played a vital role in overseeing student well-being on campus.
A faculty member of the Department of Chemistry at KNUST since 2007, Professor Nkansah’s academic journey is marked by numerous accolades and achievements.
She holds a PhD from the University of Bergen, Norway, and earned her MSc and BSc from KNUST. In 2019, she became the first female associate professor in the Department of Chemistry at KNUST, a significant milestone in her academic career.
As a professor of chemistry, she has taught diverse subjects like Practical Chemistry, Nuclear/Radiochemistry, and Petroleum Chemistry. Her teaching is intertwined with her passion for mentorship.
Over the years, she has guided students, helping them navigate higher education and career paths. To Professor Nkansah, mentorship is more than passing on knowledge; it's about sharing life experiences, insights, and fostering growth.
Her achievements in academia are extensive. Her groundbreaking work in environmental chemistry, particularly in studying toxic substances like heavy metals and persistent pollutants, has garnered international recognition. Her research, focused on finding solutions to environmental issues affecting food, water, and soil, reflects her deep concern for the environment.
As she assumes her new role, Professor Nkansah is expected to bring her experience, dedication to student welfare, and passion for education to the Directorate of Student Affairs, further enhancing the student experience at KNUST.
