The Edu Fondazione Scholars Association – KNUST Chapter has reaffirmed its commitment to student welfare by donating assorted food items to the KNUST Food Bank, an initiative under the Directorate of Student Affairs (DoSA) aimed at supporting students experiencing food insecurity.
The donation, which included bags of rice, cartons of spaghetti, tins of tomatoes, cooking essentials, and other food items, was officially presented to Mrs. Theodora Oduro, Assistant Registrar and Unit Head of the Student Support and Financial Services Unit of the Directorate of Student Affairs.
The presentation ceremony was attended by Mrs. Bernice Ofosuhene Peasah from the Counselling Services Unit, DoSA, alongside executives and members of the Edu Fondazione Scholars Association.
Speaking during the presentation, the President of the Association, Mr. Aaron Appiah Dzekle, described the donation as a privilege and an opportunity for members of the Association to give back to the KNUST community. He noted that the support they have received through the Edu Fondazione scholarship has inspired them to extend a helping hand to fellow students facing financial and food-related challenges.
He emphasized that the gesture reflects the Association's commitment to social responsibility and encouraged other scholarship groups, alumni associations, corporate bodies, and student organizations to support the KNUST Food Bank initiative. According to him, as the semester draws to a close, many students encounter financial difficulties, making such acts of generosity essential in ensuring that no student is deprived of a meal while pursuing academic excellence.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Directorate of Student Affairs, Mrs. Theodora Oduro expressed her profound appreciation to the Association for the thoughtful and selfless donation. She commended the members for demonstrating compassion, generosity, and a strong sense of responsibility toward their colleagues. She noted that the contribution would significantly strengthen the Food Bank's efforts to provide timely assistance to students in need.
Mrs. Odura further encouraged the Association to sustain the spirit of volunteerism and community service, adding that their support serves as an inspiring example of how scholarship beneficiaries can positively impact the university community. She also appealed to other organizations and well-meaning individuals to partner with the Directorate in expanding the reach of the Food Bank to support more students.
Also addressing the gathering, Mrs. Bernice Ofosuhene Peasah of the Counselling Services Unit lauded the Association for its willingness to support fellow students. She remarked that the donation goes beyond providing food; it offers hope, reassurance, and a sense of belonging to students who may be going through difficult times. She encouraged members of the Association to continue demonstrating empathy and kindness, stressing that collective support contributes to the holistic well-being and success of students within the University.
The presentation concluded with a renewed call for individuals, alumni groups, student associations, and corporate organizations to support the KNUST Food Bank initiative, reinforcing the University's commitment to fostering a caring and inclusive campus environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive.
